Pedestrian Accident Claims Guide

On this page you will find information relating to road traffic accidents involving pedestrians, including information and advice on how to make a successful claim for compensation as a pedestrian road accident victim.

Pedestrian Road Traffic Accident Compensation Claims

Unfortunately some road users operate with scant regard to pedestrians, and the number of injuries involving pedestrians where cars and other vehicles come off the road onto the pavement is alarming. Similarly pedestrians are injured every year while they cross the road at designated crossing points. Sadly, children and pensioners are in a high risk group for road traffic accidents involving pedestrians. If you are a pedestrian who has been injured by a vehicle or if it is your family member who has been injured you may have a strong case to receive compensation.

Pedestrian Road Traffic Accident Statistics

One bright statistic is the fact that accidents involving children are declining each year on UK roads.
Although, over 30,000 pedestrians are injured as a result of road traffic accidents in the UK each year; and there were 3,090 children aged 15 or under killed or seriously injured on the road in Great Britain in 2007, according to the Office for National Statistics, this was a fall of 55 per cent, since the baseline average of 1994-1998, when there were 6,860 casualties.
In 2007 around three-fifths of those killed or seriously injured were pedestrians.
Since the 1994-1998 baseline average of 4,167, the number of child pedestrian casualties actually decreased to 1,899 in 2007. Road casualties among child cyclists decreased from 1,129 to 522 over the same period.
Among road casualties in 2007, 121 children aged 15 or under were killed, a 28 per cent decrease from 2006. Just under a half (57) were pedestrians and a further 13 were pedal cyclists.
Overall, there were 23,807 child casualties in Great Britain in 2007, the vast majority of which (87 per cent) were only slightly injured.

Pedestrians, Often A Strong Case For Compensation

As a pedestrian if you’re involved in an accident which was the fault of a vehicle driver, a claim can usually be made against the driver via their insurance.

If you are hit by a vehicle while on the pavement, or while on a pedestrian crossing, in many cases you should have a cast iron case for compensation.

In hit and run incidents or if you are hit by a stolen vehicle or an uninsured one your compensation claim can still be made through the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB).
