A national campaign group of personal injury lawyers is celebrating 20 years working for the rights of the injured, and is now looking forward to even more hard work, campaigning for the rights of injured people throughout the UK who have suffered accidents through no fault of their own.

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers was set up on a mission to defend people’s rights for adequate compensation when they become victims of personal injury whether it is injury at work, road traffic injuries, or other forms of injury caused by the negligence of others.

Reflecting on the organisation’s work over the past 20 years, Chief Executive Denise Kitchener says:

“Our aim is always to protect the fundamental rights of injured people and to ensure access to justice and full redress for those who lives are turned upside down by someone else’s negligence.

“I am immensely proud of our work which has been so actively supported by dedicated personal injury lawyers. APIL has had to face many challenges to injured people’s rights and we have

faced them head-on.”

Over the last two decades the association has gained wide recognition for its work speaking out for the injured, and its support for personal injury legal professionals who offer impartial, legal advice for victims of personal injury.

One of its achievements includes the development of a recognised quality kite mark, backed by a telephone helpline, to help injured people be clear about and confident in the legal services they can expect from the association’s accredited lawyers.

The APIL also provides a booklet offering a comprehensive overview of dealing with the compensation system helping to dispel many of the myths connected with the area of personal injury law and legal services.

“Our Accident or Negligence? booklet has been an important initiative offering much needed guidance on how the law interprets the difference between an accident and a negligent act, as well as promoting personal responsibility and other key messages at a time when there is so much misleading information,” says Chief Executive Denise Kitchener.

“The lives of people who have been injured needlessly can often be completely shattered. Helping to repair that damage is a very serious business indeed and one to which our members are totally committed.”

Based in Nottingham, UK, the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers is a non profit organisation with a membership of more than 4,500 lawyers and solicitors from across the UK and overseas.

The association’s safety campaigns over the years have always focused on the prevention of injury and a fair deal for victims, whether related to holidaymakers abroad, farm workers in the UK, the construction or other industries, or parents and children.

Recent efforts include a campaign to increase the number of judges who specialise in complex personal injury cases in the county courts in Northern Ireland – in order to bring the numbers of experienced judges into line, with proposals to raise the barrier to allow more personal injury cases to be heard.
